OM UTSTILLINGA

Utgangspunktet for alle fotografia i utstillinga er kulturskogen, altså skog som i stor grad er påverka av menneske, og menneskeleg aktivitet: landskapet langs vegar og hogstflater, randsoner, plantefelt, vindfall.

Slik sett problematiserer tittelen ”Skogens uro” det kjente uttrykket ”skogens ro”, som på mange måtar er eit glansbilete og ei sovepute.

Tittelen og fotografia har samtidig også i seg det meir innovervende og personlege i møtet mitt med skogen: Lyset. Den langsame tida i ein skog. Det vakre. Det mystiske. Det skumle. At eg ofte kan føle ei uro der meir enn ei ro, både på skogens vegne, men like mykje i mi eiga oppleving i og av den.

OM KUNSTNERSKAPET

Eg er i hovudsak autodidakt, med eit ½ års-kurs i fotografisk dokumentasjon ved Nordens Fotoskola i Stockholm som viktigaste input. Den dokumentariske haldninga derifrå har eg tatt med meg inn i det kunstneriske arbeidet mitt, og den er fortsatt ofte utgangspunktet for det eg fotograferer, og også måten eg fotograferer på.

Eg er i fotografia mine generelt oppteken av det forgjengelege, og korleis menneska påverkar naturen og motsett. Som større prosjekt har eg tidlegare fotografert den siste tømmerfløtinga i Norge (som enda opp i bok og separatutstilling på Norsk Skogmuseum i 2011) og det islandske landskapet sett frå bilvindauget, gjennom mange studieturar (med fleire kunstnaropphald hos SÍM i Reykjavik). Eg fotograferer primært analogt, og ofte i svart/kvitt. Eg arbeider nesten utan unntak tematisk, og i seriar. Noko av det viktigaste for meg i sjølve fotograferings-situasjonen, er å opne opp for det tilfeldige, og dermed for det eg ikkje kan eller vil styre.

About the Exhibition

The starting point for all the photographs in the exhibition is the cultural forest, i.e. forest that is largely influenced by humans and human activity: the landscape along roads and felled areas, edge zones, planting fields, windfall. Seen in this way, the title "Skogens uro" problematizes the well-known expression "the calm of the forest", which is in many ways a shining image and a sleeping pillow.

At the same time, the title and photograph also contain the more introspective and personal aspect of my encounter with the forest: The light. The slow time in a forest. The beautiful. The mysterious. The scary. That I can often feel an uneasiness there more than a calmness, both on behalf of the forest, but just as much in my own experience in and of it.

About the Artist

I am mainly self-taught, with a ½ year course in photographic documentation at Nordens Fotoskola in Stockholm as my most important input. I have taken the documentary approach from there into my artistic work, and it is still often the starting point for what I photograph, and also the way I photograph. In my photography,

I am generally preoccupied with the impermanent, and how humans affect nature and vice versa. As a larger project, I have previously photographed the last timber rafting in Norway (which ended up in a book and a separate exhibition at the Norwegian Forest Museum in 2011) and the Icelandic landscape seen from the car window, through many study trips (with several artist stays at SÍM in Reykjavik).

I primarily photograph analogue, and often in black and white. I almost always work thematically, and in series. One of the most important things for me in the photography situation itself is to open up to the random, and thus to what I cannot or do not want to control.
