Our Story

GALLERI SCHAEFFERS GATE 5·FREDAG 5. JANUAR 2018

Schaeffers Gate 5 is an independent not-for-profit art, music and performance exhibition space dedicated to the international spirit of true art and creativity. Located in the residential neighbourhood of Sofienberg, Schaeffers Gate 5 is situated in the ground floor of a charming 1890's tenement building, easily found just around the corner from the cafés and bars of Oslo's trendy cultural Grünerløkka district. The space itself features two intimate rooms: The Vestibule and The Gallery. Both rooms provide adequate wall-space to accommodate various 2-dimensional visual art. The Gallery can also be used for acoustic music, performance, film screenings, poetry readings, sculpture and other events GALLERY OBJECTIVES (Norwegian): Galleriet har som mål å etablere en plattform hvor kunstnere fra Europa og Amerika møtes. Alle disse kunstnerne har sin egen unike versjon av virkeligheten. Galleriet ser fram til å presentere disse kunstnerne, deres uttrykksverdener som representerer nåtid, fortid og framtid, uttrykksformer som kan være romantiske så vel som ironiske og undergravende. HISTORY Schaeffers Gate, literally meaning "Schaeffer's Street," was originally (and coincidentally) named after Henrik Ernst Schäffer (1794-1865), a Norwegian teacher and customs official who established a grant to support youth who wanted to become artists, "where the interest should be distributed to young people, who have the desire and talent in the Arts (painting, sculpture and poetry) but who lack the financial means to begin and continue their studies." Schaeffers Gate 5 was first established as an art space during Oslo Open in September 2011. APPLICATION GUIDELINES
